    Brushes
The large red brushes I use for watercolor painting are NEEF Alvaro Castagnet Series 117 Brushes. I have sizes 2, 4, 6 and 10. They are Kazan squirrel quill mop brushes. I love them! Other than the daVinci Maestro (see below) these are the only brushes I use. The black, smaller brush is a daVinci Maestro Kolinsky Sable size 8. It is a beautiful pointy, delicate brush that I highly recommend. You can purchase the Castagnet brushes from this Australian art supply company: Or through Alvaro's website: The Davinci Maestro is carried by Daniel Smith:
Paper I use 140 lb Rough Paper. The brands I use are Fabriano Artistico, Saunders Waterford and Arches. I buy full sheet packs. Palette My palette is a bit customized. It started out as a FOME 16 half pan palette. I asked my husband to make an insert for me so he removed some parts and machined an aluminum insert with 15 wells. It fits perfectly! I use it for all of my paintings except full sheets or larger. Then I put paint in butcher trays or directly on my painting tables. You can find the 16 half pan palette here: for $44. It's a good palette; heavy duty and will last a long time. The half pans are pretty small, but you can double up (i.e. use two pans side by side) for your most frequently used colors. Paint My palette holds 15 watercolor paints but most of time I use about half of these. I have my very own Fab Five . These are the five colors that I paint 90% of my watercolor paintings with
    1. Yellow Ochre
    2. Cadmium Red Light
    3. Burnt Sienna
    4. Permanent Alizarin Crimson
    5. French Ultramarine Blue
My other colors that round out my palette are
    1. Aereolin (Cobalt Yellow)
    2. Raw Umber
    3. Cadmium Orange
    4. Opera (a hot pink color)
    5. Cobalt Turquoise
    6. Cerulean Blue
    7. Cobalt Blue
    8. Neutral Tint
    9. Chinese White
Gator Board Gatorboard is a lightweight, sturdy board made up of dense foam with a rigid, water resistant top. It's like foam core but very strong. I use plywood in my studio. The gatorboard is nice for plein air painting and traveling. Here is a link to a photo of it: Other Items Masking Tape, Spray Bottle, Sponge, Viva Paper Towels View video on youtube:

This is a watercolor painting of the Hawthorne Bridge in Portland, Oregon. I have done a series of Portland bridge scenes. I think this one has a good balance of landscape elements and captures some of the beauty of nature that makes Portland such a unique city.

This is a watercolor painting of some wild daisies. This spring was especially cool and wet and the daisies loved it. I don't remember seeing so many blooming!  I painted this as a demo for create38.com, so you can watch this being created!

This is a plein air watercolor of the Marquam Bridge in Portland, Oregon. Paintings done on location are always special to me. There have a magic quality that is difficult to duplicate in the studio. I painted a studio version of this scene as a demo for create38.com. The studio version has sold, so I thought I would offer this one as well.

This is a watercolor painting of a farmer's market that I love to visit in Southern Oregon. Late in the summer, the fresh cantaloupe are ready. I love the smell of the ripe melons.

This is a watercolor painting depicting the fields where I live. I'm fortunate to have willing and cheap models...the cows. But they never stay in one place very long!

"Garden Valley Fields" is a plein air watercolor painting done at a local farmers' market. There are large fields behind the produce stand where they grow strawberries, raspberries and various vegetables. It's one of my favorite painting locations because you can buy all sorts of good food!
